Mindset Shifts for Decluttering
Did you know that the greatest barrier to getting more organized is your mindset?
It’s not the stuff we have, it’s the feelings that we associate with the stuff. It’s the stories we’ve created about why they are important and why we can’t do it ourselves.
Here are some perspective shifts I invite you to take before starting your next decluttering or organizing project.
You won’t be able to do it all at once and that’s okay. Take a small step and go from there.
Take breaks. When you are feeling stuck, stop.
It’s okay to ask for help when it feels like too much.
Trust your instincts, it often tells us exactly what we need to know.
Be okay with letting things go.
I know most of these are simple when saying it, but much more challenging to put them into practice. If you start to feel stressed or overwhelmed, I give you permission to take a break or to ask for help. Our things and going through them can be really confrontational and emotional, and it isn’t going to be easy.
Breathe, take it slow. Take breaks when you need them and remind yourself of how much progress you make each day, because if you’re confronting it, you’re making progress.
