Organizing the Kitchen
When deciding what to write about next in this blog, I looked back at some of the most common questions I get from friends and family, and it’s almost ALWAYS about the kitchen. Here are some of the challenges I’ve heard and seen when it comes to organizing the kitchen.
“There’s not enough space!”
“These cabinets don’t work, they don’t fit any of my pots and pans.”
“It’s always messy, things don’t fit right and therefore, it’s always a mess to find things.”
There’s often only so much we can do about space and cabinet shapes in a kitchen without doing a total renovation of the space. With all spaces, we have to look at what we have to work with and make it work best for us.
To start:
Empty all of your cabinets and drawers. Clear out the junk drawer that most likely lives in the kitchen.
Look at everything you have and ask yourself what do you use. Do you have duplicates? Things that you’ve never used? Things that you use once a year?
Donate the things that are duplicated or don’t use. Set aside the items that are only used once a year. Really see what you use on a regular basis.
As you start to put things away, think about where you use items the most - i.e. oven pans near the oven, etc. As you start to put things away, here are some of my personal favorite organizing items to keep the kitchen more tidy and organized.
Lazy Susans
Lazy susan’s are perfect for things on the top shelf, or cans and spices. They can also be great for corner cabinets to truly utilize the space in the cabinet. They come in all different sizes and you can use as many as you need!
Cabinet Organizers
These are great to fully utilize the space in your cabinet and see everything all at once.
Additional Shelves
These come in all different sizes and help you use the vertical space in your cabinets.
Pan Organizer
Easy slots for your pans so you don’t have to stack them all and can easily take out what you need, and even better, easily put them away!
All of the items above (those pictured) are from The Container Store, but you can find most of them anywhere! In addition to the few I listed above, here are some other useful organizing products.
Additional drawers for your pantry - I had a huge open space at the bottom of my pantry and needed a place to store my items, this has been wonderful in creating more space and keeping things organized!
These are just some basic tools and tips to help you get more organized in your kitchen! Remember to take it one step at a time, and of course, if you need help, that’s what I’m here for!
Happy Organizing!
