Yoga Poses: Frog Pose

Frog Pose

I absolutely love frog pose, but I know it can be a challenging one! It is considered an advanced pose, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t ways for anyone to access a version of frog.

Key Cues

  • Begin in tabletop with your hips over your knees

  • begin to take the knees as you sink your torso closer to the floor

  • Keep your knees and hips aligned and bring the big toe side of the foot carefully towards the floor

  • You can use blankets to slide the knees wider

  • You can lay your torso on a bolster

Benefits

  • Strengthens the back muscles

  • Stretches the inner thighs, groin

  • Can strengthen the core

  • Counteracts muscle tightness associated with sitting a lot of the time

Modifications

  • Place blankets under the knees

  • Lay your torso on a bolster

  • Keep the feet together (think wide child’s pose)

  • Half frog - one leg out to the side at a time
