Fire Proof Safe: Why You Need One
Often times when I’m organizing with a client we come across crucial documents and there are a variety of responses: “That’s where this is!” or “I should probably keep all of these together.” or “I’m always looking for this!” Those are all normal, common responses to finding important documents. Of course, the next question is “What’s the best way to organize these things?”
Well, here’s a great storage and organizing solution for these items: fire proof safe.
We don’t want to think about something like that happening, but it is always better to be prepared. And keeping your important items in a place that is locked, secure, and everything is there, is a simple way to keep all of these items together.
What should I keep in there?
Birth certificates
Social security cards
Will
Property Deed
Car(s) Title
Marriage Certificate
Account information (you could keep a statement from all accounts you have so account information is there; this could include all credit and banking accounts, stocks, retirement accounts, etc.)
Life insurance information
Insurance Information
Passports
Medical Documents
Other legal documents (i.e. living will, health care proxy, powers of attorney) - this is for yourself, everyone in the home, and anyone you may be a proxy for already
List of contents of home (home inventory for insurance purposes)
Bonus:
Photos saved on a flash drive - optional of course, but if you have a collection of photos you wouldn’t want to lose, this is a great place for them, especially digitizing old family photos (pre cloud services!)
Key for safety deposit box (if you have one)
Extra cash
Anything you deem irreplaceable
Essential items should always be stored in the fire safe box, but I do encourage you to think really hard about what is most valuable to you and keep it safe and accessible for those who need it.
Are you feeling overwhelmed with putting this together? That’s why I’m here! I want to help you prepare and feel ready for anything. Leave the work to me and let me help you remove the overwhelm. You can work in person or virtually on prepping your safe!
