Yoga as Therapy
If you were to ask someone who practices yoga on a regular basis why they do yoga, you’re likely to get the answer “because it makes me feel good.” If you were to ask someone why they started going to yoga in the first place, it was often about the “fitness,” the activity aspect of the practice. For most who practice, and continue to practice, it quickly becomes something much more.
Yoga Poses: Inversions
Inversions. They are amazing postures. They take concentration, practice, focus, and determination. We all have the strength to hold inversions, but they are still challenging for most of us. It takes time and patience to understand what we need to nail inversions.
Wake Up with the Sun
Wake up with the sun, and I don’t mean the actual sun, unless you’re a morning person! Wake up with the sun salutations. The yoga sun salutations, or surya namaskar, is a full body warm up. You can take these postures at any pace, modify the positions, add things in, and can be a great foundation to your practice.
Visualization
I’ve had to take a step back from intense physical movement to heal an injury lately. The movement always helped with the injury, but in order to fully and truly heal this time, I had to pause. One of the things that I’ve had two of my favorite teachers tell me is that visualizing the movement is just has beneficial as actually doing it.
Yoga - Not Just Movement
When we think about yoga, we primarily think about the physical practice. We think about attending classes, getting the heart rate up, doing a movement practice. We might also think about breath, but past that, if we haven’t experienced yoga, we don’t know about all of the other parts that make up our yoga practice.
A Little Dash of Yoga
We can't always make it to our mat. As much as we'd like to, life gets in the way. Just because we can't make it to our mat everyday, doesn't mean we can't practice everyday. If all you have time for is 10 minutes a day - get on your mat (or carpet, or hardwood or bed).
Pose of the Month: Sphinx
Sphinx pose feels amazing after you were typing away at your computer all day. Be mindful of your low back as you come into it. You want to feel a stretch, but not pain. Know the difference.
New Look, Same Motto
My motto from the beginning has been to help you release stress and clutter from your life. Whether that was through yoga, meditation, or physically supporting you to organize your space. This year has been anything but ordinary for all of us, but it has been a year to take a step back and reevaluate.
